My Bullet Journal

I've been pretty obsessed with the bullet journal trend for quite a while. I love being organized, doodling, calligraphy, and journaling. How could it not be perfect for me? So, this month, as I was reaching the end of my current notebook and finishing the last pages of my agenda, I decided I would give it a try.
I used a plain black notebook that I happened to get my hands on and decorated it to fit me. I covered in in scrapbook paper and took it from there.

On the front cover I stamped my name, then drew a rose on a piece of newspaper, tried my best to replicate the moon from Starry Night; added a string of Christmas lights inspired by Stranger Things; a 'Keep Calm and Carry on' atop the Union Jack; a lyric from Space by Something Corporate, accompanied by an astronaut I traced; a little mixtape, and a crown. On the back I have Seb's logo from La La Land; the orange spiral from Turtles All The Way Down; "So do something" from The End of the F***ing World; the R. Mutt signature from Duchamp's famous installment art piece; "Gatsby turned out alright in the end"; phases of the moon; a compass rose drawn on a map; Mickey; the Hard Rock logo, and some stickers.

I started with an index, in which I have my key, and the table of contents.
I made some pages that I could flip back to when I needed something to do, complete with adequate decoration.

I even used it for some (very surface level) college searching. On the left page, I listed possible majors, with careers they could lead to and average salaries of those careers. On the right, I did a profile of various colleges I was interested in, with acceptance rate, number of students, location, majors offered, and other information I thought was important.
And so that brings us to May. I decided to do a Paris theme this month. On the far left I listed all of the dates, and marked in some events I knew about. I drew in a little calendar. I added three boxes for goals, To-Do, and Favorites. The centerpiece is my habit tracker. I find these really helpful because it makes me want to fill in as many boxes as I can, leading me to working hard to fulfill those daily goals. On the far right is a little mood tracker for the month, with 31 little boxes and colors for different feelings to fill in.

For the weekly spreads I didn't know what style fit me best, so I decided to try a bunch of different ones and see which one I liked the best. I have a section for each day, and a graph to track my phone usage, steps, productivity, and sleep. I also have a checklist of my weekly chores.

In the future, I think Paris is much too difficult a theme to keep up with, but it led to some cute pages. My favorite is the polaroid one, which also took the longest. Each one of these spreads took close to an hour to set up. A ruler is necessary in this process. Overall, I had fun, and look forward to a new, aesthetically pleasing, hopefully more organized future with my new bullet journal.

If you're looking for a cute notebook to start journaling in, I recently started designing and decorating hardcover notebooks, which are sold on my Etsy store. (https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheCrownJulesShop?ref=l2-shop-info-name) I cover each one with scrapbook paper then hand decorate it with drawings, hand-lettering, and paint.

  1. Julia, your mom told me about your bullet journal - I had never heard of them until a couple of days ago. What a great idea, and I love what you've done with yours! If I had been this organized when I was your age, it would have served me very well. :)
